AC stands for Abrasion Class. It measures how well laminate resists surface wear. The right AC rating depends on how much foot traffic the room receives. Most Toronto homes need AC3 minimum in living areas and AC4 for high-traffic zones like hallways and kitchens.
Closets and rarely used rooms only. Not suitable for living areas.
Bedrooms and low-traffic rooms. Not for kitchens or hallways.
Good for most residential areas. Our minimum recommendation for Toronto homes.
Residential StandardHandles high residential traffic. Right for kitchens, hallways, and open-plan living areas.
Most PopularRated for commercial use. Right for retail spaces, offices, and very high-traffic homes.
Commercial GradeToronto's climate creates specific conditions that affect laminate performance in different rooms. Humidity swings and seasonal moisture changes mean some rooms are better suited to laminate than others.
AC4 rated laminate handles moderate to high traffic well. Floating installation over existing hardwood or concrete is straightforward. Wide plank options create a premium look at a fraction of hardwood cost.
AC3 rated laminate is ideal for bedrooms. Lower traffic means a lighter wear rating is sufficient. Laminate is warmer underfoot than hardwood and much more affordable for large bedroom areas.
AC4 rated laminate handles kitchen traffic well. Clean up spills immediately as standard laminate cores can swell with prolonged moisture exposure. Waterproof-core laminate is a better choice for kitchens with young children or frequent spills.
Standard laminate is not recommended for Toronto basements due to moisture risk. Waterproof-core laminate is suitable for above-grade basement areas. For below-grade or high-moisture basements, LVP vinyl plank is the safer choice.
The highest traffic areas in any Toronto home. AC4 minimum recommended. AC5 for entryways that receive outdoor foot traffic in winter when boots and salt are tracked in. Pre-cut entrance mats help extend laminate life in entryways.
Standard laminate should not be installed in Toronto bathrooms. Water exposure from showers, baths, and toilets will cause swelling and delamination. Use LVP vinyl plank in all bathroom applications.
The most common question Toronto homeowners ask when choosing budget-friendly flooring. Both look like hardwood. Both float over existing floors. The difference is in the core and how each handles moisture.

A good laminate installation is invisible. Tight seams, straight rows, proper expansion gaps, and clean transitions. A bad one shows immediately under raking light. We get it right the first time.
The price you approve before we start is the price on your invoice. Safeway and other competitors often separate material, installation, removal, and disposal into separate quotes. We itemize everything upfront so you know the real total before saying yes.
Laminate installed over an uneven subfloor will click, flex, and separate at the seams within months. We check every subfloor for level, moisture, and structural integrity before installation begins. Problems found are presented in writing before any work proceeds.
Most Toronto laminate jobs take one to two days. We commit to a start date and finish date in writing before work begins. Laminate is walkable immediately so your home is back to normal the same day installation ends.
Buying AC3 laminate for a high-traffic hallway or AC5 laminate for a bedroom guest room are both money wasting mistakes. We match the AC rating to your specific room, traffic level, and budget during the consultation before you spend a dollar on materials.
Free in-home assessment and written quote across Toronto and the GTA. AC rating advice included. Same-day response.
